Our Active Ingredient

The active ingredient in our BODYGUARD Anti Mosquito fragranced sprays is a powerful non toxic repellent called IR3535

After much research into which repellent to use in BODYGUARD we were won over by the incredible work of the famous French laboratory, Merck. For over 30 years Merck have carefully studied Mosquitoes and the different species, all over the world. Thanks to their amazing scientific team they created a DEET free insect repellent called IR3535 which has become well known in many countries as a highly reliable and a very effective repellent against ticks, mosquitoes, and other irritating insects.

For us, what also gave confidence that this was the perfect repellent to use in our products was the added benefits IR3535 offers;

  • Efficiency & Long Term Protection – IR3535 will protect even the most sensitive skin for up to 8 hours from all types of Mosquitos.
  • Safe for Children – To protect our children whilst they play outdoors is crucial, families want to explore the countryside, lake and rivers or camp outdoors without worrying about what might happen. IR3535 is completely safe for children over 12 months old.

  • Safe for Pregnant & Breast Feeding Women –  IR2525 has been used as an active ingredient for many years without a single indication of any harmful impact or risk to pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Kind on the Environment – IR3535 has an excellent “toxicological and eco-toxicological profile” – in other words, it’s not toxic to aquatic organisms such as fish or algae. It also does not build up in the environment. So, one of the best things about IR3535® is that it shields you without harming your health or the environment.

So how can we prove that it really does work?

All insect repellents are tested by a technique known in the industry as an “arm in cage” study. When tested our chosen repellent performed exceptionally well in repelling different kinds of Mosquitos

IR3535 is approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and also comes recommended by other important governing bodies such as the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
